New Casino In Tahlequah Oklahoma
Cherokee Casinos have begun to reopen in Oklahoma following strict safety and sanitation guidelines. The Cherokee Nation will be opening a newer and larger casino in its capital city in Oklahoma. The tribe broke ground on the Cherokee Casino in Tahlequah on Monday. The 92,000-square-foot facility will feature 525 electronic games, a 144-seat restaurant, a cafe, a live music venue and a full-service bar. The existing Cherokee Casino located a few miles south of Tahlequah, OK at 16489 Highway 62 has been replaced by a new Cherokee casino located in the Cherokee Springs Plaza. It is one of nine Cherokee Nation Entertainment destinations in northeast Oklahoma. The new casino's property covers more than 92,000 sq ft with the gaming section covering.

The Cherokee Nation is starting work on a casino expansion project in Oklahoma. The tribe is moving the Cherokee Casino in Tahlequah to the nearby Cherokee Springs Plaza. Plans call for a hotel, convention center and new clubhouse for the adjacent Cherokee Springs Golf Course. Cherokee Springs Plaza is a multi-use retail development in Tahlequah, the tribal capital. Since the first phase opened in 2016, several businesses have opened there, The Cherokee Phoenix reported. Groundbreaking for the casino takes place March 26, the paper reported. Chief Bill John Baker discussed the project at his State of the Nation address on Monday, the paper said. The tribe operates nine gaming facilities in Oklahoma. The Cherokee Nation is a sovereign tribal government. Upon settling in Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) after the Indian Removal Act, the Cherokee people established a new government in what is now the city of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. A constitution was adopted on September 6, 1839, 68 years prior to Oklahoma’s statehood.

More than 141,000 Cherokee Nation citizens reside within the tribe’s reservation boundaries in northeastern Oklahoma. “We must all act to stay healthy, monitoring our own health and that of our family, limiting travel, if possible, and checking on our elders who are most vulnerable,” Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. said. “The Cherokee Nation has secured federal funding to help us combat and treat any coronavirus cases, ensure our medical staff are trained to identify, treat and respond to patients efficiently and have the ability to do our own testing.”
A call center (1-833-528-0063) has been established for tribal citizens who have questions about COVID-19. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. If tribal citizens have symptoms like cough, fever or respiratory problems, they should contact their Cherokee Nation Health center first, before entering. Local meetings and at-large community gatherings are also being postponed for the time being to help keep our employees and tribal citizens safe.
As of December 17th, Cherokee Nation Health Services has 8,039 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Cherokee Heritage Center Act
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., Deputy Chief Bryan Warner and members of the Council of the Cherokee Nation met Sept. 24 to officially sign the Cherokee Heritage Center Act of 2020. The Council of the Cherokee Nation unanimously approved the legislation during a special council meeting held shortly before the official signing.
